How rare is such a beast in 12ga?

Seller wants $11k?

If in excellent condition with unique features, or interesting provenance, a single trigger (or double trigger) DHE might command such a price. A single trigger is not the deciding factor in determining value, only desirability to a particular buyer. IMO. OK, just saw your pictures. Off hand I'd say that is not an $11k gun. What do you know about it?

Looks like someone tried to flatten the rib.

I really know nothing about it. The guy who has it is a friend who usually trades in things that are black, plastic or modified in some way or another. He bought it, I have no idea what he gave for it.

The rib does look odd doesn't it. What would be the point in flattening it like that?

This appears to be a nice DHE and I have no idea what they may be saying on the Parker forum since I don't post there. However; with the obviously refinished wood and the replacement butt plate I seriously doubt it's in the price range indicated in the initial post.

The missing skeleton butt plate is a deal breaker at that price or even at half that price, unless there is something very special about the gun. Get the full S/N and look it up in the serialization book. Need a better pic of the trigger, and info on barrel length and chokes. Probably a nice gun at $4K.

Clearly the pad is an issue, as well as some other things. The 4k range was in my head as well.

On the buttpad, would they all have had skeleton plates? Wasn't there an option for a pad from the factory? Clearly not this pad of course. I am just trying to justify why someone would hack off a skeleton plate to replace with a pad.

And the more I look at other images of DHEs, the more bothered I am by the rib.

Yes, but that's why you need to check the serialization book. Book does not list all S/Ns and data is not 100% correct, but it might confirm that it left the factory that way. If that rib is factory, that could make it special, but probably not $11K special. Rib looks like it was done by a professional, so might be factory, but I have not seen one like that. A PGCA letter might show that the gun was shipped that way to a famous person. Provenance helps with value, but does not make it a better shooter. Make sure all S/Ns match and that barrels have not been cut, chokes opened, chambers lengthened, etc.
