Bought a new Kodiak .45-70 in May, and stopped by the Davide Pedersoli factory, Brescia, Italy, while on vacation last week. They gave us the full factory tour. I am very familiar with machined products and can tell you that this is a first class gun manufacturer. Combining the latest CNC machining centers with old world craftsmanship and hand finishing, this little company (50 employees) turns out an astonishing variety of black powder and modern cartridge reproductions of about 50 historic guns, from Brown Bess muskets to Colt Lightning pumps. They make just about everything in house, except for brass furniture and bluing. Check out their website for more details http://www.pedersoli.com.

Steve,

I purchased a Kodiak MK IV over a year ago and have had wonderful results on paper as well as on deer. I'm getting 2 1/2" groups at 100 yards with 300 grain Speer bullets, CCI 200 primers, WW hulls and 61 grains of IMR 3031. What loads do you use?

Harry,

I bought a Lee kit and started re-loading with 405 grain bullets and 70 + grains of powder. I'm getting 3 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards. I'm satisfied with these first results, as a novice handloader. The Kodiak is a real attention-getter at my local range. Everybody wants one ! After the tour at Pedersoli, my next goal is one of their Sharps models, such as the Quigley. These people (Pedersoli) are real craftsmen and you can't beat the value with any other make. I may go North this winter for some hunting action, but I sure don't want to get this little beauty wet or scratched up !

What powder are you using in your 405 gr. loads?
Best,
David

Whatever was recommended in the Lee kit. I'll have to check tonight. No problems with shooting.
