Just bought this 20 ga Rossi, and it has a Greener bolt lockup. Has anybody seen one of these? Wondering when it was made, and thinking of doing a SXS slug gun(rifling the tubes) or 30-30 DR on it. Winter project.

Geez, so it's not a Purdy---the little pellets still get out the barrel at the same speed. Nobody admits to owning a Rossi? I did a crotch grain straight grip stock for my other 20 ga Rossi, took it to the local skeet range to try out, and the kid behind me asked if it was a M21 Winchester. I said it was the nicest thing anybody said to me in a long time.

The only Rossi models I've ever seen with a Greener style crossbolt are the "Overland" models, imported by Garcia, in the early 1970s, but, they were hammerguns. They were really crude. When we were kids, we all learned pretty early on that the guns imported from Brazil became unreliable in fairly short order. I remember a few Boitos and a few Rossi's and all were replaced in a season or two-one of the O/U Boitos was actually warrantee replaced by Target, back when they had a cursory sporting goods department. The kid got a "New Haven" version of a Mossberg 500 pump, which, at least, worked. I had an Italian "Companion" single shot, and a well used Remington model 17, both guns were reliable, and were loaned on more than one occasion to a friend who was saddled with a gun from Brazil. I'm pretty sure Sponge Bob would say, "Hey, good luck with that".
Best, Ted

Some years ago I bought an Amadeo Rossi SxS on a whim, primarily for duck hunting. 12 gauge, 28" bbls. It had nice bluing finish and a decent looking PG stock with no checkering and a gloss finish. Extractors and double triggers, 3" chambers, no recoil pad, surprisingly good balance. I have no idea of the vintage. I shot it as well as any SxS I have ever shot at waterfowl. Wasn't overly heavy, but didn't kill me with recoil with heavy clothes on. But, the trigger guard - which was thin and had a fairly sharp edge - absolutely killed my middle finger. I tried everything, several different homemade pads. Tying a 1/8" thick stiff leather piece to the rear of the trigger guard and taping some heavy closed cell foam to my finger made it livable, but barely so. I have occasionally gotten bumped with other guns, because I do not tend to hold a gun tightly, but nothing like that ever happened with any other gun. I toyed with the idea of getting it restocked, but I finally gave up and sold it to my buddy, who still shoots it sometimes. When I took it down for cleaning the internals looked pretty decent.

Well, I rebent the guard on my other Rossi to fit the straight grip stock, so maybe I accidentally cured the finger clearance problem. Made the stock high at comb, so it's great for pheasants rising, and shot 21 at trap twice with it with 3/4 ox loads. We'll see......I have more time than money, since I retired.
