Was the "Long Range" made in all the guages of the time? I can't recall seeing any in 28 or .410 (the only "Long Range" .410 I ever had was a "Lefever" hammerless single shot, also made by Ithaca, I think).

I used to work with a man who owned a Western Arms Long Range .410.

Solid "behind the kitchen door" guns, as one of our former posters from the 'show me' state used to say. I don't recall that he ate much crow w/his postings, but he always claimed that he did ;-) and he was seldom not taken to task for one reason or another. It was 'Glenthorne' something or another as I recall.

Funnier dialogue in them days; now, not so much. I find that sadly disconcerting ... in some ethereal sense.

My father had a WA .410. His father bought it for him new in I think 1942. Just this year he handed it down to my son. It is in very, very good condition.

Our family has had a 20 ga. WLR since it was new. It had the two beads and recoil pad. The beads were knocked of and the front bead was replaced with a wooden match stick that has lasted since since prior to WWII. The recoil pad was crushed from sitting so long. The stock was too short and drop for me so I restocked it with a Nitro Special stock. The old Man always said he had gotten 24 Pheasants and fox with one box of 25 shells, had to shoot one twice.

Wonder what happened to old Thorny? He was seriously considering joining the Minute Man movement, to patrol the southern border. Wonder if he ever did that?
Almost forgot, I owned a 12 gauge Western Arms with a single trigger, in one of the older Double Gun Journals there is a piece with production numbers by years for those guns. Mine was purchased in 1932, somebody had the extra scratch for a single trigger, but, they produced very few guns that year, as I recall. I got a few birds with it. I also got caught with that gun in a lightning storm in Steele County, MN, that caused me to lean it against a tree and take cover perhaps 50 yards further off. No harm to either of us.
I got rid of mine BECAUSE it had a single trigger! I get a laugh out of somebody worrying about the frame material, from what I've seen, they hold up as well as the same vintage model 21 does!

Best,
Ted

His name was Lowell, as I recall, and he seemed extremely paranoid about his "neighbors". Always posting about them poaching on his estate.

Kinda miss him tho'.

This is a 100% original finish Western Arms .410. There were no 28 gauges made.

All I have seen have legs on the dogs.
ps all frames of WA were malleable steel--probably better then case hardened as I have never heard of a cracked frame on an Ithaca WA. Anyone here??
