I recently restocked an older Fox B model and finished it with tung oil. Every thing went well untill I buffed out the last coat. I noticed that something, lint I think, had transfered into the finish and I could not get it out with more elbow grease. I am more than willing to take the finish back down to the wood and restart but wondered if there was a better way. Any suggestions.

You might try a light polish with some oil and rottenstone. The fine grit of the rottenstone will remove a small amount of finish with your surface impurities but will save the drastic step of a strip/refinish. I'd avoid solvents of any kind. When you have it the way you want it, a topcoat or two and you should be back in business. Go easy, though.

Like hansli says, if you want you may even try some 1000 or 600 grit sand paper. Scuff lightly and see how it removes the "nibs".

If you buff with power ( elec. drill) , the heat buildup will make the finish soften & hold lint fibers. Ken
