Hi guys - I have been following for awhile, and have been soaking up a ton of the knowledge that is shared here.
I own a field grade LC Smith that has been refurbished. The gun has the original butt plate, but I need to add about 1/2" to the LOP. I would prefer to add a thin recoil pad, but can't seem to find anything that would look right. The slim Silvers type pads seem like they would be a good match, however, I haven't been able to find any available. I can't stand the look of the ventilated pads that are available. Am I missing something? Do any of you have a suggestion of what may work?
Thank you in advance for your help!

Noshoc, 3/4" total to add 1/2" replacing a plate with a patent date of 1922. Available on ebay, CSMC and many others. Bob Jurewicz

Welcome, jb. I understand that you said you want to remove the buttplate and add a recoil pad, but there is another option, less trouble and less costly. Unless you really want a recoil pad in place of the buttplate you can order one of the leather lace-on (or velcro) pads and have it on in a matter of minutes. They will add 1/2" to the pull, and I have added spacers inside the pad to increase that a little if needed. I shoot them on almost all my vintage doubles, even some modern doubles. Here's a link to them and a pic of one of my guns wearing one. They do no damage to the wood whatsoever, and do an awesome job with recoil, if that is important to you. Just a thought for you to consider. http://www.kick-killer-recoil-pads.com SRH

Noshoc is on the thin side. CSMC makes 1/2" pad I believe. Also, their $50 silvers repro pad grinds on the face very well. So you can shape it down to thinner if you want.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I think the Noshoc pad looks like a good option. I'm not sure that I like the looks of the Old English pad, but it is probably the most functional.
How come the Silvers pads are sold out everywhere? Did they stop making them?

I think the CSMC Winchester 1922 repro pads are solid and can be ground to whatever thickness you need, but check with CSMC re the solid issue. CSMC used to sell their hard rubber 1/2" pad in red, brown, and black, and those may still be available. Perfect for adding just a little to LOP.

X2 on the kick killer pads. They preserve the original look while also adding a seperate vintage appeal. Easy on and off at 1/3 the final cost of an installed pad.
