Apologies if this has been covered previously (I've searched extensively on CSMC, Grand American, etc. to no avail) - does anyone know the details of engraving on the Grand Americans? I've examined a couple, but don't find any signatures - and of course most of them use the same pattern.

Are they using the Parker Repro method of roll engraving the flats and hand engraving other parts?

Thanks!

The pattern is the same as the original Winchester 21 Grand American. Standard engraving patterns for the 21 were 21-1 21-2 21-3 21-4 21-5(the rarest)21-6 & 21-6 with gold. 21-6 with gold became the Grand American engraving pattern after 1960. Of course, Winchester would do anything a customer wanted in the way of engraving if they were willing to pay for it. Typically, Winchester custom shop engravers did not sign their work unless the customer specifically asked for it, and I assume Tony is following this tradition.

If the question being asked is concerning the newer M21 O/U and not the SxS, those guns, I believe are machine engraved.

I should have been more specific - the question was re: the SxS...

But interesting to note the O/U is machine engraved. I assume that accounts for much of the price differential.

My CSMC M21 'Baby' frame has the typical Grand American pattern and is signed by the engraver on the frame near the trigger guard. Hard to find and a magnifier helps to find it.
It's virtually indistinguishable from any other Winchester Grand American pattern that came before it..-Dick
