Hi, does anyone know if Fox produced a factory 2 barrel set in 1909? I have looked but cannot find any conversation about it.

I am looking at a lightly engraved, cased 2 barrel set (12ga). As an early A grade the wood and engraving are not terribly fancy. There is little to no case coloring left. Bores are clean. Bluing is there, but used of course. I have not put my hands on it yet, but will today or tomorrow. I don't know barrel lengths or chokes yet either. From the photos... maybe 28s and 32s?

Any thoughts on value? I know the later A's are more ornate and desired.

Thanks,
Shane

Shane: Yes Fox did offer two barrel sets. Factory records are available for most guns over serial number 9648. Value depends om condition as you know and it would be impossible to take a guess from your one picture.

Thanks Craig... and yes on the photos/value. I thought someone might have seen a set sell lately. I'll have to keep looking. The search engines on the sales sites can be challenging on something this specific.

Oh, and from the other photos sent to me (no reason to post, they are not very good, I'll shoot more when I get it in my hands) I am betting it's sound and original, but shooter grade, not one for the collection per se.

Shane: The early A grade Fox is a sleeper in terms of value in my opinion. Some of the best quality and nicest guns were made during the early period, the quality is outstanding. Vintage gun buyers prefer the later A but the best guns are from the early period and they are a great value in vintage SxS's considering the workmanship. If the gun is a clean shooter I would guess the second set of barrels would add $500.00 to $600.00. Good luck and visit us over at foxcollectors.com Craig

Thanks Craig, I posted over there as well. I had a membership and didn't even recall. I only own one Fox (a 16ga philly sterlingworth that is currently being refitted with a new pad to replace a botched job) so I never think about posting over there.

I have an early A grade with the "plainer" engraving which I actually prefer over the IMO somewhat garish engraving on the later A grades. Mine is a 12ga ejector gun and is a jewel as far as shooting goes. Fox's are great guns and the best made, again IMO, of this period here in the States. You have a really nice two barrel set there.

I have an A.H. Fox Gun company of Philadelphia double barreled 12 gauge with a serial number A7685 which was used for duck hunting by my uncle who died in 1934 but has not been used since as far as I can tell. Any suggestions on approximate value or anyone who might have an interest?

Thanks for all the information folks. If I can get my hands on it in the next couple days I'll post some nicer photos here.
