How difficult is it to "disable", or convert L. C. Smith ejectors to extractors? Thanks, Ed

Ed, if they are the second style of ejectors, taking out the springs in the for-end will disable them.

If they are the first style before 1902, that use the mainsprings to activate the ejectors, I'm not sure.

Ed:

After you remove the factory springs, replace them with "light carburetor style" springs if you want the lifters to extend outward to the proper height.
Experiment with various carburetor springs and you will find the correct one.

I have converted many L.C. ejector forearms to extractor forearms using this method. The ejector will "click" but only LIFT the empty hull for hand extraction selectively.

Best,

Doug

Doug, the extractor will still work to bring the shells out far enough. Would be the same as if it were not fired.

You can take #14 & #15 out,,the ejector sears, along with their small coil springs.
Put the sear pin #17 back into place just for looks.
The kickers/ejectors will act as extractors at all times that way as they will never cock and release to eject the fired case.

Easier IMO than wrestling with the ejector springs.

Don't know if removing the entire kicker assembly would make it an extractor gun but:
You can take the entire kicker unit (No's 5,6,7,8,9,10) out by simply removing the cross pin #12.
Part #11 then fall free from the shoe, so don't loose that (don't know what it's called but it's beveled edge lifts the kicker unit up to clear the kicker sear(s) as the gun is opened)
