Beautiful. The Ruger website used to show a custom Gold Label with a thistle engraved on the bottom of the action. I thought it was awesome.

Interesting engraving style. It harkens back to the thread on the Holland & Holland (I think) gun with the fantastic style of mythological creatures made back in the early 1900s..

Nicely executed, but I could do without the face on the top snap.
And for that money I would prefer a used Dickson RA.
Interesting, thanks for posting it.

Still not a fan of screwin choke tubes on a double but I'd make an exception for that one. You should point out Ruger no longer supports that gun with replacement parts so the price should come down.

Ummm ... between "turd" and "fine gun", there's a lot of room for relatively inexpensive and reliable guns that are neither of the above. I don't care much for the engraving style, and the minimum bid is outrageous, though maybe not for someone. But otherwise the sloppy wood to metal fit shown around the top tang is the only issue I have with this gun. I have a friend who bought his Gold Label new for well under $2000, he's shot the snot out of it with no problems. A 12 ga. under 6-1/2 lbs., it's a wonderful gun to carry and shoot -- especially for folks who like a little weight forward balance. I once thought the 3" chambers silly in a gun this light, but 3" steel loads aren't so heavy for recoil, and very useful on WPAs and other uplands where lead's not allowed. I'd be pleased to own a "turd" like this.

There are some guns that help me to be very content with the guns I already own. Gargoyles on a gun leave me a bit cold. I also know more people who have gotten rid of a Gold Label, versus those who are lusting for one today, but, it is a highly unscientific measure from my little corner of the world. I'll guess the seller is going to be a bit late on the timing of his investment, but, who knows?
Best, Ted

I think that top lever gargoyle is a plastic insert.
When they were first announced I was really excited. I asked the local shop to call me when one came in. After a few months one did and I rushed down to lay my hands on it. Well, I did and after just a few minutes I realized what a low quality gun it was. I just couldn't abide all the rough castings and poor finish on almost everything. So I kept the $1,200 in my pocket and put the gun back in the rack.

Use of castings has never bothered me, but yeah, I've seen some Gold Labels (RRLs too) I wouldn't want because of poorly fit wood. When my friend was in the market for one, I looked at 3 or 4 for him to find one with decent wood to metal fit.
