Ken, As you know from your experience is that designing with computers has this unique and very fast method of collaboration and sharing of design concepts and thoughts. This being just one of the significant advantages to designing with CAD over the antiquated previous paper and pencil methods of visualizing design. I too was taught design on the board often working with paper or cloth and ink pens. Sure looked nice when done but the time and possibility for revisions and improvement seriously limited. Concerning the design and easing of edges, there are no sharp edges, any sharp edge is eased with a purposed chamfer. Not rounded edges often caused by polishing over a egde which is not very nice looking but intended and carefully cut or filed on. My plan has always been to chamfer the edge in question. I am doing that now and when polished I will take new pics and post them. If we do not like the chamfer I am always steel safe to change to a radii but that is part of design and the tweaking there of.

I finally got time to do a simulated installation of the sight on a M70. This rifle was re-barreled about 25 years ago for hunting in africa. It is a 1950 era magnum action with a Kreiger 35 cal barrel. It is a custom wildcat called a 35 Zimmerman. It is similar to the 358 STA and can push a 250 gr bullet past 3000fps. It uses a 375 case necked down and blown out. It sported a scope until today. I will also need to add a front sight as part of this project. I still need to turn up the pivot pin and hope to do that tomorrow

250 gr @ 3000+ fps?
I love rear aperture sights more than anyone but I would not want to be looking through one while pulling the trigger on a hot chamber in that gun! OUCH!
Damn nice work though.

Thanks Thaine and Brent for the compliments Brent you do have to hold on tight to this one. It's not a pleasure off the bench but not as difficult when shooting off your hind legs. As in a DG situation. First time I shoot it I will let you know if another choice of M70 should be made. You could be right

Yeah, I was wondering what you would us it for. The rifle sure seems like a dangerous game rifle, but the sight seems like something more suited for plains game or elk.
Are you at all worried about recoil inserting that sight in your eyeball? I've never shot a bolt mounted sight like that, but I do shoot a whole lot of tang sights. However, most of those on the heavier recoiling rifles have the staff and large eyecup to ensure that it does not hit me in the eye. The lollipop sights are on lighter caliber rifles.
I'm in the slow and heavy crowd. These super fast things are too intimidating for a lightweight like myself.

The position/location of the staff is the same position that the eyepiece of the scope was at when I took it off. Never got hit by the scope so hoping the same here. I too have a number of BPCR's with tang sights that I built and those eyepieces are much closer to the eye. And I am glad the recoil will flip them forward when you touch off a shot.
