I have the book and really appreciate it for a number of reasons.
I can't recall, but did Jim Wurtz ever post on this board? He was on Shooting Sportsman and the the Not board. He was a knife maker so this is a little off topic. He died well before his time from complications of having a dental procedure done in Argentina. He was a great asset to the discussion boards and sold his wonderful custom knives far cheaper than he should have. I have a few of them and will leave them to my grandson when that time comes.
I have been fortunate to meet several people from the boards at the Flatwater Shoot. Some of you have been there. I'm sorry that it has come to an end. My daughter once asked me, "You mean you drive to another state to spend a weekend and shoot shotguns with people you met on the internet?"

That is a very good reason to attend some of the smaller "vintage" side X side shoots. One can meet the people corresponded with via the internet and exchange information. I've met some very nice people at these events and each year we catch up on new guns, projects and hunting exploits. The smaller shoots seem to have more time for this and I try to check in with some of my past squad mates at each event. Always interesting to hear what they have been up to since our last meeting.

David:
I don't recall if Jim posted here, but I bought one of his knives as a gift for my youngest brother and we used it to dress out a very nice 10-point this year. I'd intended to buy another for myself, but Jim passed away before I got around to it.
This thread, and the ones about Tony Treadwell, make me realize how many very nice people have passed through out lives on these discussion boards and are gone from them.

My list of lost and missing members is getting too long. Not to miss any it includes: Tony, Dr. Gaddy, Mr. Mann, Klunkmeister. L.... The list goes on and on. The saddest part other than their loss is the loss of their knowledge and willingness to share information. One problem with hanging around old men is that we tend to get sick, loose interest or just die too soon. Maybe I'd be better hanging around younger females. Or maybe not.

Then Dear Tony should indeed be very proud of that chapter franc

dont wake up the pope yet...
understanding and condoning are two different things...
the process that tony employed for recoloring and rehardening shotgun receivers, makes one wonder if the risks involved are worth the gain?
i mean if a receiver is already hardened, why subject it to the stress of rehardening, if the only purpose is cosmetic enhancement?
keep it simple and keep it safe...

Ed, I reconsidered recoloring and case hardening after one of Canada's revered gunsmiths said the risk wasn't worth it. Not only stress but warping.

I doubt it would have been as good a read if Tony wasn't actually doing it. I picked up the eBook early on, but that comp I had it on is long gone. I suppose I should order a copy of the hardback.
