I have a Remington model 32 skeet that I really like for preserve birds, but it gets heavy after a few hours. I was wondering if it can be lightened some--maybe drilling another hole in the stock, lightening cuts in the action that wouldn't compromise the structural integrity, sort of like the G33/40 Mauser. Any thoughts (other than using a different gun)?

Thanks.

John, be aware that weight removal will very likely change the balance location and the swing efforts. Just be aware that you risk not liking the gun's handling post weight reduction.

Hollow the stock. Hollow the forearm. Hollow the barrels - usually referred to as "back boring."

If you are interested, I can provide a little "coaching" along the way.

Baja,
jeesus, I wouldn't start cutting lumps of wood outa the stock or metal from the action..I don't think that either would save you much weight...and if you wanted to sell the gun down the road, well...good luck.
I'd say hunt for only an hour, or hit the gym mate,
or like you said not to say, use a lighter gun..or hre a gun bearer, lol
cheers
franc

No, it can't be done without screwing that Model 32 up royally. You need another gun.

If you like the 32 design but are looking for a lighter gun for hunting, keep your eyes open for a Petrik. Petrik was a Czech gunmaker living in France, and he's the guy who first designed an OU that looks a whole lot like a 32. Only thing is, I think all the Petriks I've seen (fewer than 10) have been lightweight hunting guns rather than heavy target guns. If you want to see one, check out the Safari Outfitters website. They show a 16ga at under 5 1/2 pounds. Listed as a French OU rather than under the Petrik name, but that's what it is.
