Wow! This BB is the most comprehensive board that I have seen and I am happy to be here. I just bought a new AYA #2 16 Ga and was amazed that the gun did not come with an owners manual. I have emailed AYA and after a week I still have high hopes but have had no response from the mfg. Has anyone seen an AYA owners manual? Is the stock finish on the shotgun a true oil finish? Is the removal of the side plates straight forward or is there something to be done before one turns the lever?

Cock gun before removing locks. Having spent some time and trouble on the innards of a used 12 ga., I can say that I had no difficulty removing the locks without damage to stock wood but that is a risk. In fact pushing with the cranked screw after backing out a few turns popped the r/h lock and I pushed the left out with a pencil. Some here have suggested light taps on the front of the action bar is the "recommended" way. Don't force; don't pry; pop them over covered bench top, carpeting, sofa, not over a concrete floor. Curiosity may not be the best motive for removal but we've all been there. If you have questions when it comes time to replace, don't hesitate to ask. Finish is a "not enuf oil" finish.

I have never seen an owners manual, new guns usually come with proof certificates though.

Please clarify. I plan to wax the stock and fore piece, but do not know which wax is best for the AYA finish. Also, is it correct to assume that tung oil would be the best way to touch up scratches when needed?

Jim, I can't speak to the finish on your AyA; I don't think the pores were even filled completely on mine. I don't see any reason why something like Formby's satin "Tung Oil Finish" wouldn't work over whatever's there if you're careful to dewax prior to application. The wax I like is a homemade preparation known by various names in various places composed of 1 part beewax, 1 part mineral spirits, I part boiled linseed oil. Sort of a cleaner and wax in one. Sometimes I throw in a bit of shoe polish--cordovan or whatever.

Jack, thanks for the information, I’m happy to know that wood finished with oil and that I can wax to protect. My stock/fore arm appears to have a good finish and I see no evidence of open pores. Sometimes you get lucky.
