I have possession of a 1947 Ithaca NID 20 gauge with 26" barrels marked "2" and "4" (M &F). I had staff at a large local LGS examine the gun and they stated that the chokes were tight improved cylinder and modified.
The gun is tight and about 50% CC and 97% blue and the wood is in excellent condition. The old white line pad will need to be replaced. There is slight surface rust on the receiver.
This gun was inherited by a friend of a coworker and his wife does not want it in the house.
He is asking $700 for it. That is what the LGS offered me for it when they examined it.
Are there any concerns about the Miller single trigger? How does one check them for proper function.
If the trigger checks out OK, I probably will buy the gun.
Sorry, I don't know how to post pictures.
Any and all comments are welcome. Thanks!

Hello,
I own an Ithaca or two with Miller triggers and one Fox, I wouldn't be concerned at all about purchasing a gun with a Miller trigger. Some people turn their noses up at single triggers on a double shotgun, I actually prefer an Ithaca or Miller single trigger on my Ithaca shotguns. I guess I'm not a purist, each to their own.

With the reservation I am not a Ithaca man.

Only one I own is a NID 10 G Grade 1. It's a real nice gun. Friend that knows more about them than I do says NIDs are the best Ithaca's. Newer NID is likely to have modern dim's too. Nice 20 from one of the 5 premier American makers is well worth the money you mentioned if the barrells are sound. Leaves some room for refurbishment - repair if needed.

Prefer double triggers but would not reject a Miller trigger gun.

Thanks for the comments. I hung the barrels from my finger and tapped both sides with the other hand. They rung like a church bell.
I will take and post pics as soon as I learn how.
I probably will buy the gun. May become my retirement small game shotgun.

A 20 ga. NID in any decent shape is worth 700.00. The Miller trigger is fairly reliable. Look at it this way. Any problems should have shown up in the first 60+ years. If the screws are not buggered I'd buy it without any questions.

If the barrels are marked 2 & 4 but the chokes measure IC & Mod, I'd wonder if it hadn't started life with 28-inch barrels? Which type selector does the trigger have? Is it by moving the safety slide fore or aft of the safe position or is it the rocker switch in front of the trigger? Is the trigger marked MILLER on the side?

It is the Miller trigger with the rocker switch in front of the trigger. It is marked "MILLER". The safety slides from the rear to the front when deactivated. The barrels do not appear to be cut.
