If an LC Smith top lever doesn't want to stay soundly to the right in a consistent manner, what part would I look to as being the culprit. I would expect that the tab on the top lever where the top level spring rides would be.

Also, the top lever is a fair amount left of center when at rest. I don't have a barrel; maybe that wouldn't be the case with a barrel present.

Thank you for your experienced feedback.

Check the trip, trip spring or the rotary bolt.

Rotary bolt contacting the rib extension is what stops the top lever.

Thank you, Mark. Will you be at the SxS in April?

Numrich lists and old model and new model hammerless. I'm dealing with a 1904, so for parts would I focus on new or old model parts?

I've had one with a fractured spring, but the tension was also noticeably absent. The top lever didn't flop around, but you could tell by comparison that there was a problem. There isn't a lot of room in the underside of the receiver, so a broken spring can still create enough tension to keep the gun closed. Good luck. If you aren't familiar, then I suggest you do some reading on the LCSMITH.ORG website before you start tearing in to the receiver. The top lever spring requires sort of a magic trick.

I've got good tension, and have made a tool to deal with the top lever spring, so I think I'm set there. I'm expecting the trip and/or trip spring are likely the culprits.

Thanks.
