1.25 ounces of 9s used to be a good long range dove load out of a Citori skeet gun. It was a veritable cloud of shot.
Using the term "9s" in the same sentence with "long range" seems contradictory to me. When I think of long range dove loads I think 7 1/2s, not 9s. I consider 9s a close range size, 20 yards or less, not long range. I use them for skeet loads, nothing else. They're okay for opening day doves, when over half are juveniles, and close, but I don't even use 9s then. My opinion only, based on a 56 year career of shooting them.
