I recently purchased a new Ugartechea sidelock, and have noticed that the toplever is really sticky when initially opening the gun. Only like the first 1/16" and then it is smooth. Should I send this gun in for warranty repair or am I just missing lube somewhere? I don't want to send it back if it is an easy fix. None of my other doubles have ever had this issue. Thanks in advance for your help!

If it were a new gun, and mine, I'd send it back for attention after hunting seasons close. I've got a Ithaca SKB 200E that has the exact same issue. It hasn't had over 250 rounds through it since new, and has always been like that. I intend to take it to Jim Kelley for smoothing out next time I go that way. It irritates the heck out of me. Mine will cost me a few bits to have sorted out ............. yours shouldn't.

Thank you for your input, Stan. I will definitely be calling them tomorrow. I cleaned the lumps, and relubed them. It helped a lot, but it's still not quite right. Thanks again for your help!

for what its worth I would just live with it...it most likely will work itself out with a little use....these minor complaints/repairs do more financial harm to the firearms industry than anything imposed by the antis....in fact if all the antis would just buy a new gun and keep sending it in for minor warranty repairs they could probably bankrupt the firearms industry in no time....

So, we should overlook poor quality control? All it takes is one hands-on opening of the gun to prevent something like this from going out the door. To overlook it is to encourage it. IMO, poor quality control will break a manufacturer quicker than good service.

I would be willing to live with it on a cheap gun, but I bought this gun based on the fact that it would be built to a higher standard than your average Huglu. As a whole it is of far better quality than most of the guns I have owned. It is the little things that matter though. In this price range, one might hope that someone could at least double check a gun before it went out the door. It's not like I am expecting the level of detail that goes into a best gun or even some of the other Spanish guns.

I don't understand how I am bankrupting the firearms industry by paying shipping both ways for a problem which will likely take very little time and expense to fix. Good customer service has not hurt many companies.

jbrooster,
Be sure the problem is with the top lever. See if the firing pins are "dragging" on the primers instead. This would be a "timing" problem, instead.

I'm pretty sure this isn't the case, but I will check when I get home. Thanks for the suggestion!
