Hello all I am new here, thank you in advance . I recently picked up a Louis Debrus &cie shotgun at a local shop. The Story is the gun came in bye the owners grandson. His grandfather was a gunsmith and had done some work ,perhaps remade stocks on this gun. I have looked online, and discovered only one other online in New Zealand? I would love to know the value of this gun and insurance value. CIE as I find is a very collectable trade mark> IE Francconni? Please excuse spelling etc! Only other info is supposedly Francconi made the barrels. This is a nice 16 Gauge side bye side. Engraving is nice not as deep as allot of high end engraving I have looked at, I susspect that the gun looks too good and was maybe reblued? I found the trade marks in blue book of gun values! They are 1800s trade marks. I have never been a shotgun collector but this gun caught my eye and I bought it! Im gonna try and attach pictures in photo bucket. All feedback is greatly appreciated, did i bye a goose egg or a decent piece? [img:left] I have more pictures but will try this for now, I hope they show up?[/img]

Hi, Kwalley. Following is a value analysis based on a system I devised to help understand values of Brit and Continental guns.

You have what appears to be a decent boxlock gun from a little known Liege maker. The Brand Value level of this maker is four (little known Continental maker), BV4. The gun is looks to be between a second and third grade which for a box lock makes its Original Quality grade seven point five, OQ7.5 for an ejector and OQ8.5 for a non-ejector. I'd rate Current Condition level as level five, CC5 (minor repairs needed or a proper restoration accomplished). I think it has undergone a reasonable level of restoration.

BV4-OQ7.5-CC5 = $565 and BV4-OQ8.5-CC5 = $360. It is likely a sound shooter, but not a high value gun.

Interesting standing breech stamp.

I'd like to see what is in the rhombus forward of the flats.

Cie is an abbreviation for the French term Compagnie/Société by the way. Louis de Brus & Compagnie in Liege:

Kwalley,

You must have mixed in a photo of another gun by mistake. The gun with the silver receiver looks like my SKB 200 E imported by Ithaca in the early 1970s.
