Incidentally bye my blue book o gun values! The Mark bearing a R with small crown above , they say is Belgium smokeless proof! It is right there in pic and on both barrels as is the blackpowder proof? Im no expert at all but unless Fjestads book is wrong it is a smokeless proof as well???
What I'm seeing is an R under a star (which is an inspector's mark), not a crown. And R under a crown would only apply to rifled barrels, not shotguns. The mark you'd want to find for smokeless proof of a shotgun is the one right above that in my Blue Book: PV (which stands for poudre vive, or smokeless powder) under a rampant lion. That mark applies to ALL guns, including shotguns, from 1903 on.
