I haven't posted here in awhile but I need some help from the great vault of information on this board.
I came across an interesting 16ga boxlock today while visiting the taxidermist I use. He knows I like doubleguns & asked me if I wanted to look at one he is thinking of selling. Obviously I couldn't pass on the opportunity to look at a SxS.
What he brought out rather surprised me by the overall quality of the gun he handed me. I hadn't heard of the manufacturer before but could tell it resembled many Germanic type's of shotguns. I.E Boxlock, greener type cross bolt, bolster shapes etc.
I'm in need of any information I can get on this one. The top rib is inscribed in gold as follows. " Skacel Jos. V. Kromerizi " It has ejectors, a straight grip, DT with rose & scroll engraving and Bohler steel barrels.
Please give me any information you might know about this maker & a guess of what the value might be. I know with out pictures it's impossible to determine the value but an in the ballpark guess might help.
Thanks, Paul

I would not doubt that it is a quality piece knowing Skácel, a sleeper if you will. Skácel was the pre-WWII version of Otto Reif of Suhl in Bucovice & Kromerizi(maybe Lubná, Kromeríži District?), etc. What might prompt me to ferret out additional information would be the number & location of cities where he employed his tactics.

Raimey rse Great information Thanks!! From my basic research it looks like Jos Skacel was plying his trade in Kromeriz Czechoslovakia & the gun is probably based on a pre-war Simson action. The gun feels very nice in hand & probably comes in around the 6lb mark. Here's a link with pictures to the post I put on the Parker site about this one. This might help with identifying this one. http://parkerguns.org/forums/showthread.php?p=188799#post188799

Looks like he passed thru Bacoubice, Kromeríži & Pardubice at a minimum. I'd be a bit surprised if the components were sourced from Simon. My 1st guess would be Liege, then Ferlach & then bringing up the rear would be Suhl. But anything is possible. Can you forward the images to me as I do not have the privilege to view @ the Parker site?
