What is the history behind these guns and how well have they stood up? Any inherent problems to note?
Thanks David

Made by Fausti. It's the same gun as the recent Marlin-marked LC Smiths internally, just different cosmetics (except for the .410's and 28's, which were made by Zabala). Had the opportunity to shoot both a 12ga and a 28ga Athena d'Italia. Thought they were decent guns, not overpriced in comparison to other new sxs on the market. Can't recall reading about any particular issues with them on the BB's.

I've never shot one, but Fausti boxlocks seem generally well regarded, and the Weatherby name is more recognizable to the average shooter than Fausti, so I'd imagine resale would be better.

Until I started reading up I didn't realize it was a box lock with false side plates. I had to wonder when I saw the original price was around $3000 and then Cabela's marked them down to $1500. Both points got my thinking rearranged. Still not much information on 'google'.

An old friend that has been gunsmithing for 40 some years at a well known Southern Minnesota gun shop once told me they were very well built and reliable. He liked them so much he went an bought one for himself.

True, they are not sidelocks. Nor, for that matter, are the Fausti Dea doubles with sideplates that Cabela's sold.

He liked them so much he went an bought one for himself. I've only ever heard good things about the DEA those lovely Fausti sisters produce. If I could get one with fixed chokes, that might've been my next gun.
