What is the view on this shotgun?
Good value for the money?
Is this a current model or one that has been discontinued.

I got carried away and bought one on GB, a 16ga.

Hi, I have a 12ga 147E that I use for duck hunting. Mine has a pistol grip and SST. These are really quality made guns. Typical German make, built like a tank, more locking "devices" than a bank vault. Mine weighs in at 6-14 and is not a bad handling gun at all. It's been a very reliable gun, no issues or problems with her. Mine was not hard opening as some are (this is a typical complaint). Overall, IMO these are top notch guns and will give a lifetime of good service.

As to value, guess it depends on how much you paid for it.

Merkel USA still lists the 147EL (which has fancier wood) and the German catalog has a model very similar if not the same as the 147E.

I think you'll like your gun. I hope you have many long and healthy years shooting her>

UPS is supposed to deliver mine today.
I am becoming a bit of a 16 ga nut but shoot all other main gauges as well, except for 10ga. Sold that one.

The beauty of the 16 ga. Merkel is that it's built on a 20ga. frame! I have a 28ga, 20ga, and a 12ga EL and absolutely love them! I think that for a new sxs purchase the Merkels can't be beat.
