Is a powder baffle always required when using a MEC universal charge bar ( One in which the powder drop is also adjustable, and doesn't use the bushings )

Good, I asked because new ones seem to be sold paired with the baffle.

Randy, I do not use a universal bar on any of my Mec loaders, but I do use the red plastic baffle not Mec's grey metal baffle on all of my loaders. The grey one is not as reliable in powder drops.

When I bought my universal bar I was told it was needed by
The clerk ( at the old timey local gunshop about 15 years ago.) I have used it ever since, but cannot speak to its necessity.

I have used the grey metal baffle on all 6 of my MEC's for years and have found my powder drops to be very accurate. Never a problem.

The biggest difference between the two baffles is that the red one makes contact with the bar and the grey one does not.
If you are using a very fine powder like Win. AA Lite you will have powder coming out between the baffle and bar on the grey one. Then you have to use the brass washer.

The one thing I do not like about the red baffle is that the threads for the bottle end are not quite right and you have to play with it to make it fit right.
