If, you are looking to match something already on the gun, consider Geoffroy Gournet. Google him. He is quite adept at matching period engraving styles.

Best, Ted The screws are on the trigger guard tang. A simple straight line "burst" pattern would work nicely. so I've got the nerve to attempt that if I knew what to look for in an engraver tool. The trigger guard is both complex very worn. I'm not sure what to do on that.

Abe Chaber and his engraver made a new screw for an old Merkel I had. It was a timed screw that was angled- when finished I was unable to tell the difference in the one he made and the original screws. If your looking for a high quality job he would be a great start.

See if you can draw it to scale satisfactorily - if you can't draw it it is not likely you can engrave it. Get yourself a small triangular file (saw sharpening suppliers have a range of sizes) that will cut on the edges. You will need light, magnification, and a solid "vise" (anything that holds the screw solidly - creativity allowed). Determine if the lines are uniform width/depth or tapered width/depth. Practice on a "slave" screw(s) until you are satisfied with your work. Polish the screw head to very bright. File in the lines. Install. Smile.

Most engraving work is cut with a square graver.
