Gentlemen, just wondering if any of you have ever bid on an online auction, was outbid, and then done some investigating of the buyer and seller afterwards?

An unusual, not seen often piece came up, and I made a bid.

http://www.gunauction.com/buy/14355558

Afterwards, on the high bidder/ ‘winner’, I discovered capt-mark has 49 total feedbacks.

41 came from the seller, jcsguns.

The last non-jcsguns feedback where capt-mark won was 3/9/10. All other auctions won by capt-mark since then have been from jcsguns.

Capt-mark bought 10 items from jcsguns last year, left only 1 positive feedback for the seller, yet, received 10 positive feedback ratings from jcsguns.

Maybe I’m over thinking this, but it just makes me wonder.

Makes one wonder if the Capt-mark is a friend and bids to try and increase others to bid higher. Has been done before.

This is one good reason to know what your limits are on in bidding and not get caught up in the bidding frenzy.

I wonder how many of the sales were cancelled later in order to avoid paying Gunbroker fees?

you are suggesting that a seller and buyer with long positive histories are colluding to shill potential buyers..that is a serious matter...why not express your concerns privately to ga customer service, instead of publically casting dispersions here?

sounds like fake news to me...

GB customer service is virtually nonexistent on the buyer's/bidder's end. And what is a "dispersion?"

The word you're looking for is "shill".
It is an unfortunately not unknown practice even at auction houses rather than with individual sellers. There's no way to avoid the risk of it completely except by going with more reputable houses and trusted sellers. It MIGHT be coincidence, but that's up to those involved to assess. Set your price and walk away if it's too much.

Red you nailed it. See it on eBay all the time. Ebay has removed a lot of access to bidders names these days and makes it hard to catch but it is happening.

One of the most annoying I have ever seen at a local house here in Va, I bought a gun from GB and arranged a local pickup. The gentleman said he also had several going at a local house. So I met him there for the local pickup and stayed for the auction of his 100 guns. I bid on a few early before I realized he sat in the back row and bid on every single item until it reached his reserve. I left after the first 20 items.

Sounds like "The lady doth protest too much, methinks"

Free flow of information. Very useful in exposing unscrupulous scoundrels. No surprise they attempt to stop it.

free flow of info is one thing...trashing ones rep is another...

so, i ax again...why bring it here? why not bring it to the source where, if there is wrong doing, it can be corrected?

otherwise, this whole thread is just more fake news...
