I'm on the hunt for a 16 ga.sxs for my 12 year old great-nephew. Have found a couple of Stevens one is a Springfield model the other a Model 5100. Which of these two are the older? Is there any real difference in these two guns? Any other pros or cons on these guns will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Rick

I had one that was both. It was a model 5100 Springfield, go figure. Very stout gun to say the least. Good for your purpose for sure. Close to indestructable. Cost of 16 ga. shells may be a put off though. I believe the 5100 was first but can't say for sure.

I've got three 5100's; one is a Springfield, one a Ranger, and one a Stevens, so not sure you can tell the date by the name!
