I found an older Berretta Silvehawk locally for about $750. I think it's a 70's gun. It has 30 inch barrels, pg stock and double triggers. The stock has two nicely repaired cracks at the fences and overall the gun is in pretty good shape. Does anyone have any opinions or strong feelings about the workmanship, durability and/or relative value of these? Do these trump the current comparably priced Turkish and Russian gun? Thanks.

I have one of the newer Silverhawks that I like a lot, even with all the bad press about the triggers, mine works fine and I love shooting it. The price of your gun sounds pretty good and I'd guess its a lot better gun than the current crop of Turkish and Russian stuff, at least the stuff I've seen.

This topic was just discussed a week or two ago, check history for those replies. As for me, I love them and $750 is a good price. The 30" barrels are not common, which is a bonus if you like long barrels. If you don't buy it, send me an email (in my profile), I might want it.

I had excellent service from a 16-bore (sorry) Silver Hawk for years. It was the variation which has a crossbolt, and was about mid-1960s vintage, I think imported by Garcia Corp. Got thrown into a house down payment in a dry season, workwise. Wish I still had it.

The early Silverhawks as described were o.k. guns. My family had a couple and I used them from time to time. Although not as knowledgeable as I am now---a benefit of this great board---I considered them at the time as "just guns." There was nothing about them to write home about.
