Hello all. Local gun store has an Iver Johnson 16ga on the rack. I took two quick pics as I didn't have alot of time to look closely yesterday. Pictures of left and right side.... For more pics you can go to this auction on GunBroker - https://www.gunbroker.com/item/798468823The GB link is for reference only, I'm not endorsing seller or his price but the 16ga at my local gun store is exactly like the GB sellers gun. Can anyone identify the model? I don't think it's a Hercules and not a Skeeter. I will post back in a few hours with better pics and dimensions of the 16ga.

Yeah, I have no idea why the seller references the Super Trap. It's a Hercules with a non original grip cap and poor inletting of the trigger guard.

It is a fairly late Iver Johnson 16-gauge ejector double, certainly not a Super-Trap!! At some point during the 1930s they quit color case hardening the receivers and went to the black gun metal finish. By 1937 they had dropped the Hercules name for it from their catalogs. The patent dates on the watertable are for William O. Barnes Patent No. 1,131,984 and Patent No. 1,137,045. From the 1937 Iver Johnson catalog --

Well sirs, I went back today and the shotgun was sold. He listed it on the internet and it sold in 3 hours. It was a 16ga, 2 ľ” chambers, full choke right and xfull left, 28”bbls. I should have bought it when I saw it and worried about what model it was later. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/805303767Oh well, there’s always another one I guess.

Pack and Postal has had a 16 gauge Hercules hanging around for a while.
Best, Ted
