Thanks. I didn't know the top lever did the cocking on these. I've always thought MacNaughtons were nice looking guns.

I spoke with Graham Mackinlay recently and he told me that the 28 gauge MacNaughtons were, in fact, made with blued frames. The water table on these guns is marked "Steel". He could not say why they were blued other than it was a special run of some sort. It is accurate to say that the majority of MacNaughton RA's had case colored frames and trigger guards but for some reason these 28 gauges were blued.

Beginning in the mid-1890's MacNaughton RA's were manufactured with barrel cocking and at that time the need for the leverage provided by a long toplever was no longer necessary.

It's a pretty little thing. Would make a great quail or woodcock gun, if choked right. It would be a simple matter to have a leather covered pad added to get the LOP up where it would need to be.
