A new shooter recently joined my shooting club with no skeet gun but wanting to learn. A few days after I met him, I ran across references to Yildiz shotguns. Not the greatest gun in the world but I wondered if it would be a gun he could get started with. For less that $500, the gun seems to be OK, at least as a starter gun. If he bought one, he wouldn't have a big investment and if it turns out that skeet isn't for him, no great loss.
Should I recommend that he buy one?

The O/U's triggers aren't reliable. The S x Ss, just the opposite. I've had dealings with three S x Ss...... own one. Many rounds through them, without a hitch. Only issue ....... hard triggers, that can be fixed easily.
SRH
Addendum: I haven't had any dealings with the O/Us in several years. They may well have gotten the trigger issues straightened out by now. Don't want to mislead anyone.

We started our son off with a Yildiz O/U in .410 it was great and got him shooting, he out grew it and loves shooting with his Trojan.

Might I suggest either a CZ or a Huglu? The triggers might need work but they will be fixed under warranty and the prices aren't prohibitive.

This probably wont be well-received here, but a new skeet shooter would be much better served spending his $500 on a used Remington 1100.

Or a Beretta 391.
Or a Citori.
Or a 686.
Bought right, those guns will return 100% resale.
