I have a rather plain 28 ga Ugtarteburu boxlock that is typical of the Spanish sxs's that I've seen. Double triggers, extractors, needs some love wood wise. The gun functions very well unless shot until it gets real hot. In relaxed clays shooting or hunting all is well. In fast shooting eg a flurry of clays or a hot dove field the rear trigger and/or side of the action doesn't insure ignition. That light little action can get really hot. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

OK, what are the proof marks for chamber length?

What ammo are you using? 1 Ounce Winchester loads?

Steel shot ammo?

Thanks
Mike

p.s. and maybe not shoot it so fast and allow it to cool naturally smile

Left barrel 13.1 over 13.9 right 13.3 over 13.9.
Right 1130 a C with a horizontal squiggly mark in it followed by a
vgs over a horizontal line.
Barrel flats have the shield with x on it and helmet on top then crossed guns with 2 in center then BP on shield with oval on shield at bottom
850 KGS then last in line 2865 circled.
Left barrel flat all same plus F1 with a spot over it MU and the serial number. left does not have the 850 pressure stamp

Water tables have 28 65 mark. 1 seems to over print bar but I can't be sure.

Top of barrels labeled Fca-M Ugarteburu-Eibar on right and Made in Spain on left.
That's it for readable marks.

I recognize most of the proof marks but forget the years.

In all honesty, I shoot whatever load that I could find when I was using it regularly. Most of my shells are 3/4 oz loads
I have been using it some with low volume shooting. Squirrel hunting mostly.

Oh man I don't know how I missed that!! I've shot it a good bit with 2 3/4" shells but that just ended. And thanks for saving me some time by sending the RST link. I sure am glad I have a Beretta 686 in 28 gauge because I have a lot of 28's in 2 3/4.

That was the time period when the Spanish were sending us quite a few doubles that were made to a price point. Some of them had soft parts, etc. Things got better when AyA started exporting higher grade guns, along with Arrieta, Garbi, etc. The Miroku-made Charles Daly guns and Ithaca's SKB's, showing up in the mid-60's, offered a lot more gun for not all that much more money. Also the Browning BSS. Took awhile for Spanish guns to get past the bad name they had based on their early exports.

Some of the older, lesser known Spanish doubles are pretty good buys and decent guns. I have an Armas Erbi 28ga that qualifies, but not for sale.

Thread drift.

Why do you think this gun is heating up besides rapid shooting, wrong ammo, and tightly fitted parts?

Dude lives in Louisiana. He has been using the wrong ammunition, in flurry’s.

I’ll bet it gets hot.

I’ve pointed this out before, but, it is worth repeating, that European 28 gauge guns are often proofed at 2 1/2”. Even into the 1970s. Especially guns that were not intended for export.

Best,
Ted

Your initial comments, Ted are pretty much on track. Your knowledge of such things is obviously greater than mine. But, how would using the wrong length ammo cause this problem if the gun fires and extracts the wrong length ammo with no issues when doing more normally paced shooting. I do plan to order some of the RST ammo that Skeettx pointed out to see how that works out. This gun has the BP over oval on shield proof mark indicating "Reinforced smokeless proof for shotgun barrels, pressure of 12,090 psi" (from appendix 3 in "Spanish Best", 2nd edition by Wieland). Barrel flats are marked F1 which should be 1960 manufacture. All comments are much appreciated.
