I have a bad left shoulder, shoot right handed. Recoil isn't a real issue, I shoot roman candles (3.5" steel) at quackers. Before I got my dog I mostly duck hunted, so my battery of hunting shotguns is all 12bores - pump, auto, and O/U.
Well, since I got my Pointer Max, a Small Munsterlander Pointer (a versitile breed), I have actually do more upland hunting now than gunning (waterfowl). Problem is that my bad shoulder doesn't really like humping that 7 something pound Weatherby O/U 12GA up hill and down dale, so I'm looking for a 6 something pound upland gun.
Have always like SxS's, just have a hard time getting my fat little face down on most of them - not enough drop in the stock. So..... I'm starting to look for a trim little double. I can use DT's (grew up using dad's 311), but much prefer a SNST. I would like to keep the cost under 1k (I've got my piggy bank set aside for this), but would like to get something that won't drop in value.
I'm looking at the Itaca/SKB guns. Is there any weight diff in the dif models?? Is there any dif in the dif models - 100/200/280, does the letter after the model mean anything, i.e. 280E???
Thanks for your help!!! Gary

Gary, It's gonna be tight to stay under $1k with a 20g SKB on the open market these days. But, it could happen. Model 100s are extractor guns from what I've seen. 200E is an ejector gun as is the 280E. You picked a good gun to get your money's worth. Also, the BSS 20g can be found for $1500 ish. They are excellent as well.

Model 100 is extractor and splinter where 200E is beavertail and ejector with slightly fancier scroll. Model 280 is straight grip. The 'E' is only for the Model 200E and I assume means ejector. The 100 will weigh about 6#'s depending on the barrel length and the 200E about 6# 6oz again depending on on barrel. These are excellent guns.-Dick

The lightest skb will be a 20 gauge model 100 and yes, you should be able to find one for $1000 or less. If you like a bit more drop, I'd look for something like a Field Grade L.C. Smith. It migh fit you better and in 16 gauge, you might be able to get one for the price you want to spend.

My Model 500 O/U SKB 20ga IC/M works wonders for me. It's my go-to gun. The 20ga Field L.C. Smith won't disappoint you, either.
Welcome to the board.

I have a 100 that I bought new to grouse hunt with, and it's perfect for that--- light and quick. Having said that, I don't use it for anything else because it will surely make you recoil-sensitive if you shoot it a lot, like in the dove field or shooting skeet, even with low power shells, and DO NOT even think about 3" shells !
