Simon Lucas Bridge Supplies Ltd. trading as
Baize & Wool Fabrics

Looking to buy a lot, for me, of Baize fabric. Before I spend money, for enough fabric for a lifetime, I wonder if anybody here has used them as a supplier? If not, do you have a second suggestion? I will be using about five or six meter of material so I would rather avoid a mistake of $500-600.00. Thanks for replies.

KY,

There is a kilt wool supplier in PA who ships from the UK wool mills all sorts of patterns and colors; USA kilts, I think is there name. I ordered and received Black Watch fabrics for a case in ‘20, took about two months. They also ordered bright red from whomever in the UK which I used for an oak and leather refit. A bit pricey but…. Good luck.

Jon, If they are a fabric supplier, just ask them to send you a sample.

Do your transaction on a platform that provides for some protection if they don’t deliver.

Out there doing it best I can.

I have already sent for four samples. Color is hard to judge on a computer. Quality as well but I doubt they would last long with shoddy goods. At 94.50 pounds per meter (1 meter x 1.9meter width) it gets expensive when it looks like a six or seven meter bolt will be needed. Just hoping some of our British friends have used them before.

Best of luck.

Not had dealings with this one. You might try suppliers of cloth for billiard/snooker tables. Lagopus.....

Also try Hainsworth in the UK.

Their doeskin is a perfect match for the weight and texture of antique case lining. https://www.hainsworth.co.uk/collections/doeskin/

It is strong, but thin enough that it doesn't add ugly bulk that you will often see with relining projects where an unnecessarily heavy baize was used.

Get some samples from them as well to compare.
