Here are the proof marks that I can see. Was tough to photograph, but should look good enough to tell. Looks to have been made in 1957?

I haven't checked it with a magnet to see if it's aluminum yet, can't seem to find one around.

Would you say this is a JP Sauer 3000 Lux then?

A very nice Sauer Drilling, Adam! If I read the markings correctly it was proofed in 1957. After WWII Sauer started making Drillings in 1952, the first model being called 53S; I have a specimen proofed in September 1953. In 1956 Sauer introduced a Drilling with hammered rifle barrel, model 3000. My model 53S looks just like yours (except engraving and condition ) so I'm not sure if your Sauer is a late model 53S, or an early model 3000 (I have also a model 3000, but a later specimen with simpler frame lines - not as nice IMHO). I bought my model 53S recently in Germany for about $1600; same calibers as yours, but with a Nickel 1-4x scope in claw mounts.
With kind regards,
Jani

Adam...yes IMHO your drilling is a model 3000 Lux. The difference between a S53 drilling noted by Montenegrin and the 3000 Lux is that the trigger guard is made of horn on the Lux and it the Lux does NOT have CLAW MOUNTS for scope. the Lux also featured game scene engraving. Would really like to add these Drilling S/N's and related proof marks/info to my on-going Sauer research if you Sauer owners care to share. Please email direct if so. Thanks much...Jeff
