I own a Model 21 trap gun: beavertail, kidney pattern, verntilated rib, professionally re-finished, real nice wood, single selective tirgger, and orginial Winchester recoil pad. i am wnating to replace the paid with a Pachmayr XLT Magnum trap pad. Thoughts?

Save the take off pad for the next owner if you can. Some people would rather have a hard as a rock original pad instead of a better, functional pad. If I change pads I try to set the old one aside. It is your gun and change it how you want to get more use out of it. What a shame so many guns sit in a safe because they do not suit the owner instead of minor change being made so they can be shot and enjoyed more.

Forget the Pachmayr and have a KickEez installed. JR

I agree with both of the above. There are those that only want a Winchester pad on a Winchester gun. But the only pad actually proven to reduce recoil is a Kick-eez pad.

A Kick-eez on a Model 21 would be a deal breaker for me. How about covering your Kick-eez with leather?

For what it's worth, I just replaced the original Kick-Ezz pad on a K-80 Parcours with a Pachmayr SC100 pad because the "sticky" Kick-Ezz pad occasionally hung up when mounting the gun & the SC100 pad w/ the smooth heel insert does not. If there is any difference in felt recoil reduction between the Kick-Ezz & the Pachmayr I can't feel it.
Re. the pad choice for the 21 Trap gun, I would want something more "period correct" looking than a Kick-Ezz if it was my gun.

What about a red kick eez or a red decelerator pad? Utilitarian if you want to shoot it and would look good too and better than black imho. Galazan has some reproduction red Winchester pads that aren’t hard as rocks too. You want a magnum pad because of high recoil or you want longer LOP?
Socialism is almost the worst.

I do what KY Jon said. I would put a leather covered pad on it (probably over a KICK EEZ) is what I usually do. Then set the old original one aside. If you decide to sell it down the line the new owner will appreciate it. I never have any problems mounting a KICK EEZ pad. Good luck with a great gun, Colin 1949

If you are a "mount move shooter" i.e. premount shooter they are fine & you won't have a problem but if you are a "move mount shooter" i.e low gun shooter IMHO they are prone to hanging up on the gunmount & I much prefer the Pachmayer SC 100. As stated before I can't tell any difference in felt recoil between the 2 pads used on the same gun. Obviously leather covering the Kick Ezz will solve the "sticky" problem if the Kick Ezz works best for you in recoil reduction.
