Hello:

I need help regarding a recoil pad for a 1989 built 687 Silver Pigeon. The original brown vented rubber has degraded as the gun sat unfired for 20 years in a safe. My friend that sold it to me said it was a field grade so I contacted Stoeger, the Beretta distributor in Canada and they told me to order the black rubber field recoil pad. While the screw hole spacing and studs on the back of the pad lined up, the pad itself was about 3 mm to narrow and 2 mm too short. It was for a 128mm stock. Mine is 130mm by 44mm. Stoeger suggested that I have a sporting gun then and had me order a sporting pad (I got the trap version too to make sure at least 1 was correct). The trap was far too big, and while the sporting was the right diameter the screw holes were way off. The top was 22mm top of pad to centre and my current is 16mm.

I have enclosed a drawing of my pad with measurements and am hoping that maybe one of you have one that will work and would be willing to sell me?

Please let me know.

Pietro

If the pad fits the gun and you don't have to sand it- and the only problem is that the screw holes are off, you might be able to fill in the old screw holes with dowels and then redrill new screw holes for the new pad. Make sure if you redrill new screw holes that you aim the drill down so that you don't drill through the side of the buttstock. So if the pad fits the buttstock perfectly I would just redrill the screw holes. Good luck.

Also, I have a Beretta 686 Silver Pigeon that I bought new around the year 2000. Except for the engraving on the side of your gun it looks identical to mine. Although I can't really see the entire forearm. So you might be able to try a pad from another year of Silver Pigeon gun. Have you considered calling Beretta instead of Stoeger to see what they say about it ? You might want to do that . I will check mine tomorrow to see what the measurements are on it and let you know.

I thought of that except there is so much wood removed from the inside of the stock that there is no where to drill new holes. I called Beretta USA and they directed me to the pad I purchased that was wrong. Might be time to use my Italian and call Beretta Italy.

My pad is a little bigger than yours. And it is a solid pad and is similar to a KICKEEZ pad. Overall length is 134.9375 mm. But the screw hole distance is pretty close at 79.375 mm. It has a rough surface all around so you couldn't grind it. Maybe some of these other guys can help you more. But I would call Beretta and give them your gun's serial number. Take care and good luck.

Now that you have the pad off of the gun, can you show us the end of the buttstock where the pad goes?

I had a Beretta 470 SxS w/ a very similar Beretta pad arrangement that I needed to increase the L.O.P on. I just plugged the holes for the Beretta pad with pieces of dowel epoxied in place, drilled new holes for the appropriate size Pachmayr pad & fitted it in the conventional manner. I'm thinking that any pad you get from Beretta is going to require some fitting to your stock anyway.

I suggest you try Rich Cole, https://colegun.com/. He does fine work on Berettas and may be able to help. I got a pad for my 687 Gold Pigeon from him

I see you are in Thunder Bay. I am in Toronto.
If you can't find a Beretta pad to fit maybe contact Stelios Chrysochou in Georgina?
Stelios installed a Pachmayr pad on a Beretta 691 and adjusted the LOP and Pitch.
And also installed a Silvers pad on a B. Rizzini BR550.
Like Brittany Man says above "plugged the holes for the Beretta pad with pieces of dowel epoxied in place, drilled new holes for the appropriate size Pachmayr pad & fitted it in the conventional manner."
Great work, fair price and a congenial fellow.
I know not close to Thunder Bay, but maybe can ship?

Stelios
