i have spoken for a Fajan Visser 12 gauge sxs that was offered on gunbroker recently....https://www.gunbroker.com/item/1023156048. this gun was made (or, marketed?) in deventer, holland, and my searches have revealed only a small number of other guns attributed to visser....they appear to be of fairly good quality.
the seller has posted reasonably useful photos, and i am focused on #28,29,30 and 31 of those photos. the gun was obviously proofed in belgium, and most of the proof marks are typical to the liege house....my questions revolve around the lettre annale - which i first assumed to be a lower case "h", which would be 1929....but then i turned it over, and wonder if it might be a lower case "y" that was stamped from the opposite direction from the other typical liege markings - in which case might it be 1946? i have always assumed that the typical liege legends are strung out in a specific order, and would naturally be read from one consistent direction?
the other question i would pose, has to do with new to me markings, just forward of each of the barrel flats, and quite elaborate....a 5 point star, and an involved symbol, that i am unable to decipher - i am wondering if they are the mark of the barrel tube maker?
any information will be appreciated.
best regards,
tom
