Alright, I’m looking at buying a new gun. The drop at heel is right on, but the comb is 1/4” too high. How does that affect poi? It’s higher than what you typically see

It’s been my experience on guns whose combs were too high for me that they shot high and I had to hold under to hit a target consistently. I could adapt for rising trap targets, but flat or dropping targets were a challenge. For a hunting gun, I want to look 👀 straight down the barrel and have a gun that shot 50-50 or at most 60-40.

You can always have the stock bent if you like the gun enough. Cost is about $350 for 2 bends.

The proof is in the pudding. See if they will let you pattern the gun. It may shoot right where you look then you don't have to do anything. Then again it may not. You may see a lot of barrel but that does not always mean it will print high. You have to test it out.

All there make a difference
Even getting older will change face conformation.
When I retired, I went from a 19 inch neck to a 16 inch neck in a bit over a year's time

It's no problem to shave the comb down until you achieve proper drop @ face. You shave forward from about two inches in front of the heel toward the comb until it's right, testing along the way. Done it many times.

John Roberts has the right idea. Bending a stock down doesn't affect "drop at face" enough. Shaving the stock is the most effective way to change "drop at face".
