I believe it was Vic Venters who commented in a Shooting Sportsman article that Doug Turnbull was a Model 24 fan. Apparently because he shot it well. Which is always a good reason. Don Zutz said that the 24 had dimensions more appropriate for modern shooters than many of the earlier American made sxs.

Were the Model 22s any good? Because I know where there's a specimen going for the price of a moderately wild weekend spent in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, adjusted for rates of exchange and lack of sales tax.

They were decently finished, in a plain sort of way. Never heard the typical Spanish gun complaint about soft or improper heat treating leveled at the 22. I think the finish is black chrome, there was a time when that was a thing, not so much today. All I’ve seen are 12s.

I’d rather a model 22 than anything in New Hampshire. But, that’s just me.

Best,
Ted

This one's indeed a 12-gauge. Plain straight-grained walnut of the kind you'd want to see on a hard-use stopper rifle. Not an inelegant shotgun, otherwise, if one can think of, oh, a Browning B-SS as being elegant in any way. I happen to be capable of that.

Nice to know about the black chrome. Merci.

Regarding New Hampshire: I'd take their White Mountains, if I had anywhere to put them. Had a lovely scenic drive through them in the mid-1990s on my way to visit friends in Boston, in a sports car with a malfunctioning heater. In winter. It was pretty scenery.
