Does anyone know if a 1904 H&H gun built in London and sold through the Guinard French affiliate required a French import mark?

Below is a picture of the marking.

I have never seen such, but that doesn't mean much. It is some caricature of a fella flanked by 2 letters.

I did some web searches, but can’t find anything. The same numbers (3699) are applied to inside of the floorplate between the Purdey bolts.

Haven't a clue. . .have never seen a French import stamp; and in Paris don't know who would have applied it.

The closest we've gotten to looking at stamps on Reilly's sold in Paris is this line and there is nothing I can see that is unusual. This gun of course was ordered in Paris, made in Birmingham, finished in London in 1883, sent to Paris, sold, made its way back to London in the early 1900's, went out to Lebanon, came back to France and then to Belgium.

The stamp on Ken's Purdey looks like a well-dressed guy with a mustache and necktie, holding a hammer in the left hand and a baguette in the right or something like that. Neat logo.

I took a magnified picture. It looks more like a stag with a Star inside the circle of the horns. The one letter is a T. The other is maybe an O, S, C?

This is a picture of the same numbers between the Purdey locking bolts. The gun is a H&H made in 1904 with the standard nitro proof marked.

Thanks

Indeed, a Stag w/ a Star between the antlers/laurel flaked by the letters G & T.

I still prefer Argo44's >>Baguette<<.

I agree 110%. Just so much more French in Nature. Very much reminded me of >>Hercule Poirot<<, Belgian Inspector on >>Murder on the Orient Express<<, one of my favourite movies.
