The fun stuff, boats, RVs, etc., that younger generations gravitate towards all have flat or declining sales in the last few years. Even if they wanted to, they may not have the money to purchase things at a bargain, that previous generations valued.

All the things I loved as a younger man were land dependent. Fly Fishing, Upland Hunting, Mountain Biking, and Motocross/Dirtbikes. The areas where I first participated in these activities are all gone, replaced by strip malls and subdivisions. I believe opportunities and open spaces are becoming increasingly difficult to find and then afford for future generations. My two cents.

When I was a kid, I wanted to shoot, Hunt, fish etc. Now most don’t. I don’t understand. I love old stuff. I have a garage full of vacuum tubes and old radios, people just give them away...

if you want to see something highly valued in the past....that time has marched right on by - try to sell your parents/grandparents treasured sterling silver service....complete, in flawless condition, in the original velvet lined wooden case (just like a nice double gun takedown case)....

change is the only constant....

best regards,

tom

I will not sell silver. We have my grandparents and ours and some of my parents. That is something that has sentimental value.

As far as Boomers heading for the exits, Elvis left the building in 1977. I bought and sold Leonard rods decades ago with 2 of them sold to the same dealer for more than I originally paid him. As for Heddon rods, three years ago I found this 9' 3/2 Heddon, rebadged for Manufrance with the original bag with the Heddon tag and script on the rod. It's a 6 wgt and other than fading metal work, is in great shape. I found it on French ebay searching for reloading tools. The rod was a bargain at $175, The other rod depicted is one I made in 2018 at a Bill Oyster week's long class. I am working on another presently in my home. Mid July I fished the split cane rod I made 6 out of the 8 days I fished in the Yellowstone area. The grayling is my first grayling. The stick handled numerous cutties, cutbows and rainbows up to 19" during the trip. It's a 7'9" two piece for 5 wgt. Gil

When it comes to doubles, it seems to me that it's a buyer's market for 12's if we're talking anything below best or near best quality and condition. Otherwise, it seems that whether we're talking British, European, or American classic sxs, it's a question of supply and demand. Those makers produced a lot more 12s than they did anything else. And the interest seems to focus on the smaller bores. They still fetch higher prices.

If it's your thing and makes you feel better about yourself, good for you.

The Merkel is priceless.
