My bil shoots a 300 short mag. He has a pacemaker installed as you described. That’s I think over 25 lbs recoil deep’s on bullet weight. Which is similar to hot trap loads

My good friend and hunting partner has a pacemaker installed, and has been shooting weekly for over 20 years. The PM is on the left side and shoots right handed. No issues. Good luck to your friend.

This is bizarro world. 'I don't trust my cardiologist'. I do trust my shooting buddies to advise me about what I should do to keep shooting. Shopping for an answer that fits is a recipe for another visit to the cardiologist, or worse. Maybe he/she should broach the subject with the Dr. BTW, I do work in healthcare, ask questions to get appropriate answers.

It’s the anxiety over the durability of the pacemaker under recoil. The cardiologist selling them doesn’t die if it quits working.
It’s comforting to prospective patients to hear from others that have had good long term experiences with this thing, and the attendant procedure.
It is unrealistic to think or expect prospective patients wouldn’t reach out to others about it. Actually kind of vain and self absorbed to think or suggest otherwise.

I just had a Pacemaker put in on July 11th this year. I asked the same question to my Doctor. They said the same thing that since I am right handed they put it in the left shoulder. Worst thing was having to wait five weeks to be able to lift my arm above my head. I have been back to shooting now for three weeks and no issues.

Real world experience is a plus, but, I think people just assume what works for someone else will work just the same for them. Doesn’t always end well. Best, Ted

I have had a pacemaker since late in 2018. My main hobby is shooting clay targets and I shoot 40-50 flats per year. Haven't noticed any problem with a pacemaker.
Been loving shotgun sports for near 50 years
