So... I have done zero research on this gun. It's currently at my friend's company awaiting auction. Below are some photos I shot (my job) that I thought you might enjoy. The gun was bought from the Skelly family, which means there is a good chance it once belonged to Bill Skelly or even J. Paul Getty. High society here in Tulsa.

Would love to learn. If I am missing something or have something wrong, please let me know. The consignor labelled it as grade VI, but I do see a 5 stamped on the watertable... so maybe that is incorrect?

The scope mount/rear sight screws in the top rib are a nice touch. Why anyone would do that to a fine piece like this unfathomable. The white line pad and ivory grip cap really dress it up as well.

Good lord...

Was once probably fitted with one of these

The White Line pad likely dates to the 60s - early 70s

Has the seller obtained a letter from BBCW?

Gorgeous gun. Unless the chokes have been tampered with, should be F/F.

The DOM is 1915 and some engraving patterns changed that year.
It is a No. 5 with a list price of $210 which would be about $6500 today. Same in 1928 right before the Crash.
In 1933 the MSRP was $190 and dealer $160

No. 6 would have precious metal

Letter has been sent for, but haven't gotten it yet. They had several guns they sent off for at a single time. Last week I believe.

That sight is pretty wild. I can't imagine putting one on this gun, but you know... stranger things have happened! Thanks for all the great information. When the letter comes back I'll come back with more info!

Those holes and screw plugs in the rib ruin the gun for me. It is what it is, I agree, but what a shame. I'm reminded once again that those with the financial means to order such a gun new don't necessarily have good taste. And, I guess it's possible a subsequent owner could have screwed it up like that.

It does remind me though of a thread somewhere, here or another doublegun site, that showed how those holes can be plugged, peened, the rib matting hand engraved to match perfectly, and made 99% invisible.

Regardless, those are super photos, shanebevel. I welcome them and hope to see more in the near future.

May God bless America and those who defend her.
