Hello Mike. Finding a substitute powder for the original 1912 powder is absolutely of no interest, especially for a bolt gun. Its not at all necessary, unlike trying to find a duplicate original powder/load for regulating a double rifle. In addition, there is plenty modern loading data available for the 376 Steyr cartridge, which is nearly identical to this 9.5 Peterlongo cartridge. The 376 Steyr is has slightly less case capacity (only 4 grains less) so using that data is still somewhat conservative. Also, the 7x66 Von Hofe case you mention has a head diameter that is far too large to be considered as a donor case. Since I have 30 pieces of custom brass that I made from 375 H&H cases, I'm not needing any more donor brass. In fact, the 356 Steyr ammo dimensions are so close, I may actually try testing some original Hornady 356 Steyr factory ammo in the rifle by rebating the head and adjusting the shoulder.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Peterlongo made his own ammo.....

No. One is a 8,2x59,2 R, headstamp "PETERLONGO", the other a 9x71, headstamp "GR", this one badly corroded.
9,5x60 cartridges seem to be extremely rare.

The 9,3x60 / 9,4x60 is listed in Dixon's reference book from 2000 (Vol.II, p.338). Dixon's text is cited in the IAA forum discussion that Buckstix has linked above. The picture of the cartridge is copied from an old print source. Apparently at the time (ca. 2000) no real specimen was available for a photograph.
Here are now 2 cartridges:
https://cartridgecollector.net/cartridge/93-x-60-peterlongo/
I am wondering about the upper cartridge with the Peterlongo headstamp - might this be a "reproduction"?

For the 9,5x60, currently the only sign of existence is Buckstix's rifle and the listing in a Peterlongo price list. interesting that is was available as late as 1926.

Here is a G. Roth catalog from ca 1920. It shows a 9,4x60, but neither 9,3 or 9,5.

Made a mistake above.
Here is Dixon's text for the 9,3x60, as cited in the IAA forum:
“Apparently introduced c1905 by Roth (case #724) for a PETERLONGO Repeating Rifle. It is shown in a 1909 Peterlongo catalog and c1910 Roth catalog but not listed in a c1912 Peterlongo catalog. This cartridge has been rumoured to be a Krnka design but this is now considered unlikely. This was also produced by the Czech J.Roth company (1918-1928) and both “GR////" and "JR//724/*/” hs (c1923-1928) specimens exist. “Zbrojovka Brno, AS, zavod II Povazska Bystrica” (the eventual successor to JR) stopped the manufacture of this cartridge c1937/38. Shown in a “Ceskoslovenke Munici a kovodelne zavody Bratislava, AS” (M) catalog as a 9,4 x 60”.

So there were cartridges known, both with GR and later Czech JR headstamps.

buckstix,
Of course, you are reasonable to use the .375 Steyr now that you have determined they are so similar. It is less likely that differences in "proof" pressure between the old and new cartridges will result in problems in a bolt rifle. Like furmann, I also found Dixon's reference to the 9.4x60 Hunting, Roth case #724 1905-1914. Given the differences between nominal and actual dimensions with some cartridges, I thought that might be the same cartridge and was trying to confirm it. That is moot now.

So, does all that mean that it uses the 724 case and 9.4/9.5 were used for the same cartridge? Will we ever know for sure until 9.4 and 9.5 marked loaded rounds show up for a close comparison?

I have now linked this thread and the corresponding one in the NE Forum to this 2021 discussion in the IAA cartridge collector forum
https://forum.cartridgecollectors.org/t/9-5-mm-peterlongo/46287/6

Hopefully the guys over there have some more information.

Seeing this thread prompted me to think about posting photos of my Peterlongo rifle. Then I realized I had - four years ago:
