AGS, there was a separate forum for topics unrelated to the other sub-forums called "Misfires". Many of the very same people who now complain about off-topic subjects whined and cried about it, and were responsible for banding together to convince Dave to shut it down. Seriously!
Frankly, I hope "Misfires" or something like it is never reinstated here. The crybabies who wanted it gone got their way, and they still are not happy. They made their bed... let them lay in it!
Even when "Misfires" was active", there were still occasional off-topic Threads posted on the main Double Gun forum. As I have repeatedly pointed out, many of those off-topic Threads were initiated by guys who complain the loudest about off-topic Threads and Posts... especially political Threads. Sometimes those Threads ran on and on, and other times they were locked, deleted, or moved to the "Misfires" forum.
Sometimes, the Threads in "Misfires" got contentious and heated. There was natural bickering as guys and gals with radically different beliefs clashed. It was especially common here because this site has an abundance of gun owners who support and defend anti-gun Democrats... more than any other Firearms Forum I have visited except the Liberal Gun Club. Some wear their support for Democrats proudly on their sleeve, and many others try to hide it, or claim to be Independent Moderates... while continually bashing Conservatives.
Over time, they learned they could band together and complain to Dave from behind the scenes. They whined, cried, and complained that certain off-topic matter should be censored or confined to "Misfires". And then when they couldn't stomach seeing their beliefs confronted or refuted in 'Misfires", they started demanding that the "Misfires"sub-forum should be eliminated too.
In short, they wanted censorship of any subject they didn't like. They also demanded that many of those who posted Conservative content should be censored, moderated, or banned completely. The worst thing you could do was call them out on misinformation or outright lies. If you took the time to "QUOTE" them in their own words, and provided irrefutable dates and Post numbers, then they said that you were the problem, you were the bad guy or a cancer, and that you were driving members away.
You certainly saw Argo44's recent and now locked Thread where he was once again whining about off-topic political Threads. He used false and deceptive data to attempt to show that total views in gjw's annual "Guns and Game Pictures" Thread has fallen dramatically over time, and once again blamed it on off-topic political Threads. He dishonestly compared the total views for that current 2024 Gun and Game Pictures Thread, which has ran roughly 2 1/2 months. He compared it with the same Thread from 2012, 2015, 2016, and 2017... after they ran many months longer. He has not apologized for attempting to mislead us, and I do not believe posting that deceptive data was unintentional.
The same, mostly Liberal Left Democrats and closet Democrats, keep chanting the same deceptive mantra that these off-topic Threads and Posts are driving people away... but they themselves haven't left. They stick around to complain and to attempt to make this forum an Internet Safe Space for Liberals who support anti-2nd Amendment Democrats. There is empirical and irrefutable data to show that many of these political subjects collect more views and Posts than concurrent Threads. There is a view counter to show that the all-time record for number of viewers was on April 29th of this year.
It is like dumping sugar on the ground, and seeing hundreds of ants attracted to it, and then claiming that sugar is an ant repellent. They think you are that stupid, and they think Dave is that stupid too.
It is a lie and it is propaganda. Tell a lie, and then repeat it and reinforce it with more lies until people start to believe it... or become afraid to confront it.
Remember too... this is a guy who has posted literally dozens of totally Off-Topic Posts and Threads with totally non-double gun subject matter, devoted to things like Jeeps, Rolex Watches, Pashtun Genealogy, Afghanistan and Vietnam, non-game food and recipes, his French wife, Artificial Intelligence, Robots, Univ. of Alabama football, and much more. There will continue to be Off-Topic non-Double Gun related Threads submitted here... until the day Dave decides to put every member on a delayed Moderation, and combs through every word submitted to filter out or delete non Double Gun content. I don't see that happening anytime soon.
You have only been a member here since 2021, so it is understandable you didn't know about these things, or the "Misfires" forum. If you pay close attention to who is doing the whining and crying about Off-Topic and Political Threads, you will soon see that it is mainly those with a Liberal Left bent who want to censor and/or control content. They are the same guys who use their votes to support the erosion of your Gun Rights, but want you to accept them as brothers in some phony Big Tent, while they stab you in the back. They are joined by their brethren who choose to whine and complain to Dave from behind the scenes. I am more convinced than ever... when you see someone who supports anti-2nd Amendment politicians attempting to shut down those subjects on any Firearms Forum... you should understand they are not trying to save the Forum. They are attempting to give cover to those who are the greatest threat to Gun Rights. Don't be fooled.
