Spent the afternoon at my 81-year old mother-in-laws yesterday for Thanksgiving. After departing the "groaning" table, I was told that a movie had been planned. Oh great (right?). Well, it actually was. When the movie ended I found myself seeing striking parallels to our current "morning in America" situation. In 1982 I was 24-years old, 8-years later I had just gotten married and had moved across the country. In those days, the events of the news had to compete with the events in my daily life (and they seemingly paled by comparison). I certainly remember the overarching history of the Regan presidency and I also remember how it made me feel ("confidence" seems to be the overall sensation that I was left with). I also remember-well how Rush Limbaugh used to refer to "Ronaldus Magnus" in his daily radio show that I would, as often as not, listen to in my daily activities during that show's run. Limbaugh was clearly a big fan. "Hollyweird" hasn't done much lately that I am even remotely-interested in and I studiously avoid most of their products anymore, but this one is different. Dennis Quaid has done a remarkable job of capturing the man's essence, and the scenes that are portrayed in the movie were surprisingly powerful for me. I thought I knew most of the history of the man, but of-course, I only really knew the "high points". I surprisingly learned alot from this post-dinner event, and I was reminded of how much of a difference the man made in this country (at least from my perspective). Footage from Reagan's State Funeral in Washington D.C. at the end of the movie brought back the surprisingly poignant emotions I felt at his passing. I don't normally care enough to even discuss a movie I've happened to have seen anymore, but this one gets a strong "thumbs-up" from this old dog. Edit to add: Just found this... https://www.breitbart.com/politics/...final-rendition-true-story-thanksgiving/

A few years earlier, a lefty prompted me to move out of the political center, when he laughed at the assasination attempt. The news of that time was available, but not really. It came out in drip fashion, from limited sources. I'll watch for that movie.

With the recent assassination attempts on Trump so-fresh in my mind, the scenes from this movie were particularly striking. Way to-real for any comfort. Watching the actual footage of Maggie Thatcher at his casket in the Capitol Rotunda at the end still takes my breath away.
That funeral was in 2004 and it still echoes for me. We stand on the shoulders of giants here.

Hadn't even hit my radar but thanks for the head's up LLoyd.
Craig, I didn't have quite the same "moment" as you but over time, I have found the willingness of the Left's supporters to excuse violence, even assassination, to be the single biggest chasm between me and them. I should be used to it now but it was shocking to read the callousness by which Trump's near miss was treated.
The world cries out for such: he is needed & needed badly- the man who can carry a message to Garcia

Lloyd, Thatcher at the Rotunda reminds me of De Gaulle at the Rotunda when President Eisenhower was lying in state. De Gaulle in uniform and saluting his fellow warrior. Very touching.

I was 22 when Ronald Reagan was elected president. I admired him from reading his newspaper columns but didn't think he had a chance of overcoming liberal media scare mongering. I was pleasantly shocked by his election and as president, he was everything I thought and hoped he would be. Just who the country needed at the time. Turned around our slide toward socialism and led us to victory in the cold war. I loved the movie. The device of using the old KGB agent to tell the story was brilliant.
