Jon, one really nice aspect of wolverine fur is it is hydrophobic. So very resistant to frost build up. When I was doing a lot of snowshoeing in Manitoba (weekly 12 to 20 mile runs) I always made sure my parka hood was trimmed with wolverine.

I spent 30 winters in Alaska. One had to be careful in the winter with furry hats. They attracted great horned owl.

I can relate to this. I was sitting in a tree stand once, deer hunting, in camo and only moving my head. I became aware of a GH Owl watching me from a tall pine about 100 yards away. As I watched it sprang from the limb and started a gliding approach straight to me. At the very last second I realized it was targeting my head. I hollered and waved my arms which caused it to alight somewhere else besides my scalp. Had I not seen it the evening could have ended much worse than it did.

May God bless America and those who defend her.

Working outside in central and northern indiana for over 20 years.
I run this and can add a beenie/ sock cap when needed. They make kid sizes too

Had been using it for many years.

I aslo just run a thinner balaclava alot with a sock cap. Helps keep the wind out.

had not considered that. I would be more concerned that some FUDD would see a small patch of fur moving in the bush and shooting me. There is no shortage of guys that shoot first then “ground check” to see if it is “legal”.

I have a bison hide sherling-lined trapper cap, totally windproof with flaps that can be kept up or deployed to keep your ears and cheeks from turning black. Sheep skin would be nearly as good.
I break a sweat in it anytime the temp rises above zero.

I was surprised when I read that so many here had been attacked by a great horned owls.

I too have been attacked by a great horned owl while wearing a furry cap. It was dark, and I was calling for coyotes.

That was a real eye-opener, because they fly silently, and all of a sudden there is this big thing that hits you in the head in the dark.

The encounter only lasts a few seconds because the owl recognizes there’s a big something attached to the prey item.

With regard to caps, there are styles in use around the world that evolved to serve perfectly well.

We like the various handwoven, naturally died, Icelandic style winter hats.

The grandchildren like the ones with the long over the ear flaps, with long, tying braids.

In terms of functionality, they cover the ears and forehead well.

Anyone of those with the fur liner would be an absolute inferno.

I myself, have come to prefer beanies.

Mostly because they don’t get in the way of my glasses

A wool lined, or fur lined beanie, would be fantastic well into deep gold.
I prefer synthetics because my head sweats, and I throw them in the wash.

When working outside at 35 below, exposed flesh freezes. I wear a balaclava, followed by an overcap that extends down the neck, and has wrap around neck/chin protecting flaps.
If a person were wearing one, it would look like the beaver had swallowed the human.

If it was a badger pelt it would look like it was eating you from the top down.

Out there doing it best I can.

I got this one trimmed in Sea Otter you can also get it trimmed in seal fur. Almost too warm at times.
