When I bought this gun I assumed it was a reproofed original barrel, as there are new proofs over old ones. But the barrels both have significant choke, whereas only the left barrel is marked choke on the flats. The undersides of the barrels are marked J.L&S, which I assume is for Joseph Lang & Son. Could this have been sleeved by Lang and reproofed to modern standards and not marked Sleeved?

Complete photo spread of the gun on gunbroker auction 1087140906.

That would be my bet, too.

The bore marks indicate 3 provings:
1. 13/1 = .719 - .728" 1925 - 1954
2. .729 1954 - 1989
3. 18.7 = .736"post-1989
At the lower L is the London Proof date
It still has 2 1/2" / 65 mm chambers

The post-1989 proof would be to the higher CIP pressures, but 3 TONS was for a max. service pressure of about 9,000 psi. It passed CIP proof, but the wall thicknesses should be carefully measured

Might be the best free tip of the day.

Best,
Ted

Might be a free gun when that deed is done, however.
