Looking for information on a Hollenbeck Gun Company, made in Wheeling, W.VA. drilling with serial #16, guessing 1901 manufacture. It is a high grade with a detailed engraved setter on the left receiver and a pointer on the right receiver, with 28" damascus steel barrels. It is a 12 gauge over 32-40, as I was told by the previous owner. Looking for more accurate information if anyone can help. Thank you!

SxS Only,
I suggest you talk to George at T&G Gun Imports (www.GERMAN.GUN.IMPORTS.Com), he also has an interest in Hollenbeck drillings.

You could start by searching this forum using the Search Bar at the top of this page. A quick search for "Hollenbeck" provided 200 results. Many of them deal with the Drillings:

You could also search for the two successor companies that were formed after Hollenbeck reorganized... "The Three Barrel Gun Co." of Morgantown W. Va., and "The Royal Gun Co." of Wheeling, W. Va.

They are interesting guns, and fairly seldom seen. I still regret not buying a nice 12 ga. x 12 ga. x .30-30 Drilling made by The Three Barrel Gun Co. I used the money I had at the that PGCA Gun Show to buy a VH Grade Parker instead. It didn't have much engraving, but was in high condition.

Thank you Kieth, but I'm looking for more detailed information on a specific drilling by serial number, not general information or history of the companies, but thank for your input. Bill

SxSOnly,
Give me a couple days and I’ll see if I can dig up any info for you.

The old factory ledger that began with the Three-Barrel Gun Co. starts with a lot of Hollenbeck Gun Co. guns that were still in inventory. The closest to #16 are 18 and 24, both Grade 3 guns with .25-25 Stevens rifle barrels, one 16- and the other 12-gauge.

I see Researcher responded with the absence of this gun being in the ledger. Not unusual as there are many guns missing from the ledger including whole blocks of guns. I noticed that this gun is now posted on GI with a lot of pics. A very nice, heavily engraved gun that is well preserved. If I had to guess I would say it is “Special” engraving that was used to introduce these guns to the market/trade. SN 7 is a 16 gauge drillings with very similar engraving on it and there have been a few others that have similar engraving that have surfaced from time to time.

Thank you doublenut,

Yes, I did not want to wait any longer for information so I sent the gun to Tommy Guns on Gunsinternational to be listed for sale. He wrote it up the best he could with the little information that we had. Bill

To help update anyone's Hollenbeck Gun Company collection value, my Hollenbeck drilling serial #16 sold today for $4500.00, with three drive and see phone inquirers. The first collector to make it over to Tommy Guns bought it. Bill
